The 8th of March, the day in which all around the world feminism or women’s rights and freedoms is recognized. On this day, all the nations from various countries across the world mark this noteworthy date from America to Europe to Africa, except for Afghanistan.

It is widely known that women as human beings have the right to live peacefully, to freely dress, and contribute efficiently in their field. Medical discoveries, technology advancements, sports and several other fields have proven that women have outstanding talents and they can compete with men leading to developing their country by working together. However, it seems impossible in societies ruled by leaders who are foreign to humanitarian values and who don’t even recognize the word ‘humanity’ in their vocabulary.

My beloved country, which has endured countless ups and downs, is now going through its darkest period. Half of the population is barred from attending academic classes and receiving an education, while oppressive masculine powers dictate what we wear and even attempt to silence our voices because they are labeled as exhibitionist and provocative. Do they believe in God or at least in any religion?

Regretfully, there are those who pretend to have faith in sacred values, especially Islamic ones. They proclaim, “We are sent by God,” but seem unaware of the principles they teach. Why must women bear the outcomes of their offensive actions and beliefs while they are stripped of their primary rights?

Most countries care about this significant date and celebrate it as they consider powerful women as those who are capable of raising and rendering authoritative children to the society which results in having a glittering future for their country. However, Afghanistani women are enduring the worst circumstances and cannot make any choices on their own, what to wear or even how to live.
